“Los Angeles Reveals Preliminary Schedule for 2028 Paralympic Games”

Los Angeles has reached the 1,000-day mark until its inaugural Paralympic Games, revealing a preliminary competition timetable for the 2028 event. The LA28 organizing committee disclosed that the Games will encompass 23 sports and 560 medal events distributed over 294 sessions. These details were meticulously crafted in collaboration with international federations and Olympic Broadcasting Services to ensure a harmonious blend of athlete welfare and global broadcast coverage.

Ileana Rodriguez, LA28’s vice president of Paralympic strategy and relations, expressed the significance of Los Angeles’ maiden Paralympic Games and emphasized the meticulous planning aimed at catering to the athletes’ needs. Rodriguez highlighted the inclusive design of the Games, tailored for both athletes and the worldwide audience, promising an unforgettable experience as the countdown to the event continues.

Mayor Karen Bass of Los Angeles commended the upcoming Games, noting that the city will host its premier Paralympic Games featuring a record number of female athletes on the international platform. The grand opening ceremony is scheduled for August 15, 2028, at SoFi Stadium, with the closing ceremony set for August 27 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The first champions of the Paralympic Games in Los Angeles will be crowned on the opening day, competing in Para athletics, wheelchair fencing, shooting Para sport, Para equestrian, and Para track cycling events. Para climbing will make its Paralympic debut with a four-day competition starting on the ninth day, while wheelchair rugby and sitting volleyball will incorporate extended formats with preliminary rounds.

Further details, including a comprehensive event schedule, are anticipated to be released in 2026, providing a more intricate overview of the Games’ proceedings and competitions.
