“Zelenskyy in Talks with U.S. Officials on Russia Conflict”

Date:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that he engaged in a lengthy discussion with U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner regarding strategies to bring an end to the ongoing conflict with Russia. Describing the conversation as fruitful, Zelenskyy mentioned that various detailed discussions and innovative ideas were exchanged, focusing on new approaches for meetings and timelines to advance towards a genuine peace agreement.

Zelenskyy shared that Ukrainian defense minister Rusten Umerov would further deliberate with the U.S. delegation later in the day, emphasizing the need to address sensitive matters, anticipating an intensive period in the coming weeks. In parallel, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova acknowledged incremental progress in peace negotiations with the U.S. concerning Ukraine, despite asserting that Western European nations are attempting to impede the process, suggesting a robust response from the U.S.

In a separate development, Ukrainian military and security authorities reported the deployment of British Storm Shadow missiles and domestically manufactured long-range drones to target Russian oil and gas installations. The Ukrainian General Staff detailed the deployment of Storm Shadow cruise missiles on the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in Russia’s Rostov region, causing significant explosions and effectively hitting the intended target. The refinery, a key supplier of oil products to Russian military operations in Ukraine, was successfully neutralized.

Furthermore, Ukraine’s SBU security service confirmed the use of local long-range drones to strike oil product tanks in the Russian port of Temryuk and a gas processing plant in Orenburg, both crucial energy facilities in southern and southwestern Russia, respectively. The Orenburg gas processing plant, recognized as one of the world’s largest, sustained damage from the drone attack, situated approximately 1,400 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

As tensions persist between Russia and Ukraine, marked by failed diplomatic initiatives, both countries have escalated their offensives on energy infrastructure using drones and missiles. Kyiv’s intensified strikes on Russian oil refineries aim to diminish Moscow’s oil revenues, a critical financial lifeline for the ongoing conflict.

The situation underscores the increasing military maneuvers and strategic actions taken by both sides as the conflict enters its fourth year, with diplomatic efforts yielding limited outcomes.
