A one-year-old girl, who was the subject of an Amber Alert, has been safely located, but authorities are now searching for her father in connection with a fatal shooting in Brampton, Ontario. The Ontario Provincial Police issued the alert around 5 p.m., which was later rescinded approximately two hours afterward.
Constable Mandeep Khatra informed the press on Tuesday that the child had been found unharmed by the police and is now with family members. The whereabouts of the child were not disclosed, but it was revealed that her 38-year-old father, who allegedly abducted her, is now wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman earlier that day.
The tragic incident occurred in a plaza parking lot near Queen Street E. and Airport Road around 2 p.m., where the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect, with the child in the back seat, fled the location in a vehicle.
Describing the suspect as a male individual of about five feet nine inches, 175 pounds, with a slender physique, clean-shaven, short brown hair, and hazel eyes, the police provided details of the vehicle he was driving—a black 2024 model Nissan Kicks with Quebec license plate number FRV4520.
Authorities believed the suspect had left the Niagara Region, particularly the Crystal Beach area of Fort Erie, with residents in that vicinity advised to secure their homes. Despite initial reports, it was later stated that the suspect had likely departed the area.
Considered armed and dangerous, the public is urged not to approach the suspect or his vehicle if spotted. Law enforcement is requesting anyone with relevant dashboard or surveillance footage or information regarding the incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
