“Alberta Municipal Elections: Mayoral Upsets and New Faces”

Unofficial and official election results for central and northern Alberta municipalities are being released by various towns and regions in the province. Here are some of the outcomes:

**St. Albert:** All polling stations in the city just northwest of Edmonton have reported as of 1:35 p.m. MT on Wednesday. Scott Olivieri secured the mayoral position with 57.9% of the votes, while voter turnout was at 30%, down from the previous election. Out of 54,849 eligible voters, 16,451 cast their ballots.

**Red Deer & Red Deer County:** In Red Deer, Cindy Jefferies emerged victorious in the mayoral race, receiving 41% of the votes. All incumbent councillors retained their seats, and new faces include Tristin Brisbois, Cassandra Curtis, Jaelene Tweedle, and Adam Goodwin. Meanwhile, in Red Deer County, Brent Ramsay was leading in the mayoral race as of 11 p.m.

**Jasper:** Re-elected councillors in Jasper include Wendy Hall, Ralph Melnyk, and Kathleen Waxer. New councillors are Danny Frechette, Kable Kongsrud, and Laurie Rodger. Wendy Hall received the highest number of votes among councillor candidates.

**Hinton:** Brian LaBerge secured victory in the mayoral race with 1,222 votes. Several new council members will join, including Natalie Charlton, Gail Dunn, Donald MacLean, William (Bill) McDonald, and Dewly Nelson. Unofficial results for the Town of Hinton Recreation Centre Modernization Plebiscite were also announced.

**Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo:** Incumbent Sandy Bowman won the mayoral race by a significant margin. Preliminary results show the top candidates for various ward councillors.

**Fort Saskatchewan:** Lisa Makin was elected as the new mayor with 3,636 votes. New councillor-elects are Arjun Randhawa and Allan Wesley, while incumbent Birgit Blizzard received the highest number of votes.

**Morinville:** Simon Boersma was acclaimed for a second term as mayor. The council will see a mix of returning and new councillors.

**County of Northern Lights:** Reeve Terry Ungarian and several incumbent councilors were re-elected. The results of a plebiscite regarding a nuclear power plant garnered significant support.

**City of Leduc & Leduc County:** The City of Leduc council will feature a mix of familiar and new faces. Glen Bienert and Bonnie Thomas were elected as new councillors in Leduc County.

**County of Grande Prairie:** The county will have a mix of returning and new councillors. Incumbents and newly elected councillors were announced for various divisions.

**Strathcona County:** Incumbent mayor Rod Frank secured a significant victory. Most wards were won by incumbent candidates, with a new councillor elected in one ward.

**City of Cold Lake:** Bob Mattice won the mayoral race, with several new council members elected. Official results will be released on October 24.

**City of Grande Prairie:** Jackie Clayton was re-elected as mayor, with both incumbent and new councillors joining the council.

**City of Spruce Grove:** Jeff Acker was elected as mayor, and a new council will be in place.

**Parkland County:** Rod Shaigec was elected as mayor, and a mix of incumbent and new councillors will serve on the council.

**Sturgeon County:** Alanna Hnatiw was re-elected as mayor, with a mix of incumbent and new councillors elected.

**High Level:** Josh Lambert won the mayoral race, and a combination of returning and new councillors will serve.

**Ponoka:** Division 3 saw an election, while other divisions had acclaimed candidates. Incumbents returned, and the new council will have a mix of familiar and new faces.

**M.D. of Greenview:** Nearly half of the councillors will be newcomers, with a mix of returning and new councillors elected.

**Lacombe City & Lacombe County:** Thalia Hibbs is leading the mayoral race in Lacombe City, with a new city council expected. In Lacombe County, a mix of incumbent and new councillors were elected.

Official results for all jurisdictions will be announced on October 24.
