Alannah Keyser, aged 21, has been ousted as the second participant from the ongoing season of Love Island USA for using a racial slur in a surfaced video online. The elimination occurred shortly after the young college student from Miami made a grand entrance during the Casa Amor episodes of the Peacock reality dating show.
Following her arrival at the villa on June 21, an unearthed selfie-style Snapchat video depicted Keyser singing along to a song featuring the offensive term. The track in question seems to be “The Box” by rapper Roddy Ricch.
In a customary fashion for the series, Love Island USA narrator Iain Stirling acknowledged her sudden departure during Thursday night’s episode, stating, “Alannah has left Casa Amor.”
After her initial appearance on Season 8, where she seemed to form a connection with contestant Zach Georgiou, observant fans noticed a decline in her screen time. Some Reddit users pointed out her minimal presence in Tuesday’s episode.
Keyser’s case is not an isolated incident for this season or the franchise as a whole. Prior to the TV premiere of Season 8, Vasana Montgomery was removed from the cast due to resurfaced footage of her using a racial slur.
Last year, two participants from Season 7 were also expelled from the show for separate incidents. Yulissa Escobar was ousted shortly after the season began due to clips of her using racial slurs on a podcast. Escobar later issued an apology on Instagram, acknowledging her mistake and expressing regret for her actions.
Additionally, Cierra Ortega was removed from the show in a similar manner, prompting her to issue an apology on TikTok, accepting the consequences of her actions.
CBC News attempted to contact Keyser for a statement but received no response before publication.
