“Zigong Lantern Festival Lights up Mythical Creatures”

Date:

Mythical creatures and animals illuminated a lantern festival in the southwestern city of Zigong, China, to commemorate the upcoming Lunar New Year of the Horse starting on February 17. Over 1,200 workers spent weeks crafting 200 handmade lanterns, including a 210-meter-long mythical being named “Kunpeng” and a 180-meter-long Chinese legendary figure called “Mulan.”

The Zigong International Lantern Festival, a yearly event, will continue until the Yuanxiao Festival on March 3, which marks the conclusion of the Lunar New Year celebrations. The opening night showcased stunning displays captured in photos.

Attendees marveled at the elaborate lanterns symbolizing prosperity and direction, a traditional aspect of Lunar New Year festivities in China. Visitors enjoyed taking selfies and strolling through illuminated installations featuring various shapes and sizes of lanterns depicting animals and architectural designs.
