Canadian relief pitcher Jordan Romano has recently inked a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels. Romano, originally from Markham, Ontario, had previously played for the Toronto Blue Jays for six seasons as a bullpen pitcher. Following the 2024 season, he left the Blue Jays and pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2025.
The signing of Romano by the Angels was officially disclosed in a press release on Tuesday, with the contract valued at $2 million US dollars. The Los Angeles team has faced challenges in recent years, enduring a string of 10 consecutive losing seasons, culminating in a 72-90 record in 2025. The Angels’ last winning season was back in 2015.
At 32 years old, Romano, a former two-time all-star closer for Toronto, faced difficulties during his sole season with Philadelphia this year. He recorded a 2-4 record with an 8.23 earned-run average, securing eight saves in 49 games. Throughout the season, he struck out 47 hitters and allowed 10 home runs in 42 2/3 innings. Over the span of seven seasons with the Blue Jays and Phillies, Romano has amassed a record of 22 wins and 21 losses, with a 3.73 earned-run average and 113 saves across 280 major league appearances.
In a noteworthy achievement, Romano was honored with the Tip O’Neill Award by the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in 2022. This award recognized his impressive performance during that season, where he struck out 73 batters in 64 innings and secured 36 saves.
