Jake Paul revealed he suffered a “double broken jaw” during his defeat to former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, as confirmed by the YouTuber on Saturday. Joshua secured a sixth-round knockout win over Paul, who later shared an X-ray displaying a jaw fractured in two places.
On Instagram, Paul wrote, “Double broken jaw… Give me Canelo in 10 days.” He also posted from what seemed to be a hospital room, expressing gratitude for the support and reassuring followers that he was okay.
The heavyweight clash concluded with Joshua landing a powerful blow to Paul’s jaw, causing the American to hit the mat for the fourth time and struggle to rise, resulting in a count-out. Concerns were raised prior to the fight due to the disparity in size and skills, with Paul weighing 216 lbs and Joshua 243 lbs.
Joshua, a two-time heavyweight champion, showcased his elite punching prowess by knocking down Paul twice in the fifth round. Sensing Paul’s vulnerability, Joshua delivered a decisive right uppercut early in the sixth round, followed by a series of head blows that led to Paul’s fourth knockdown. Referee Christopher Young called an end to the fight at 1:31 of the round in front of a packed crowd at the Kaseya Center.
Acknowledging Paul’s resilience, Joshua commended his opponent for repeatedly getting up and fighting back. With this victory, Joshua positions himself to reclaim the heavyweight title he lost to Oleksandr Usyk and potentially sets up a future showdown with Tyson Fury.
The bout marked Joshua’s return to the ring following a previous defeat in 2024, where Daniel Dubois knocked him out in five rounds. Throughout the fight, Joshua controlled the pace, gradually wearing down Paul with strategic jabs and power punches.
Paul, reflecting on the loss, praised Joshua’s skill and vowed to bounce back stronger. The 28-year-old YouTuber, who began his boxing career in 2020, had initially aimed for an exhibition match with Gervonta Davis but shifted gears to face Joshua in Miami.
Notable spectators at the event included Rory McIlroy, Juan Soto, Dave Portnoy, Michael Irvin, and Brandon Marshall. Additionally, in an undercard clash, Anderson Silva defeated Tyron Woodley via second-round TKO, while Alycia Baumgardner secured a unanimous decision victory over Leila Beaudoin.
Overall, the match showcased Joshua’s dominance and sets the stage for potential future matchups in the heavyweight division.
