“Tehran” Co-Creator Dana Eden Dies in Greece

Israeli producer Dana Eden, known for co-creating the award-winning series “Tehran,” has tragically passed away in Greece, as reported by Israeli public broadcaster KAN on Monday. The 52-year-old producer was discovered deceased in a hotel in Athens, with initial indications pointing towards a suspected suicide, according to a Greek police official who spoke on the condition of anonymity. Eden was in Greece for the filming of the upcoming fourth season of the popular series.

KAN expressed deep sorrow over the loss, highlighting Dana’s significant contributions to Israel’s television industry and her pivotal role in creating several influential productions. The broadcaster emphasized Eden’s professional excellence, unwavering commitment, and creative passion that made a lasting impact on the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation.

Addressing rumors circulating about the nature of her death, Eden’s production company, Donna and Shula Productions, clarified on Facebook that there was no basis for speculations of criminal or politically motivated actions, urging respect for Dana’s dignity and her family’s privacy during this difficult time.

Israel’s Culture and Sports Minister Miki Zohar also mourned Eden’s passing, praising her as a leading figure in the Israeli television landscape who skillfully showcased Israeli narratives on the global stage with pride and courage.

“Tehran,” which premiered in Israel and on Apple TV in 2020, follows the story of Tamar Rabinyan, a Mossad operative on a mission to disrupt the Iranian nuclear reactor. The series received critical acclaim, winning the best drama series at the 49th International Emmy Awards in November 2021.

Dana Eden’s television career began in the 1990s in Israel, with notable works such as the comedy “Yom Haem” and the crime drama “Magpie,” before achieving international recognition with “Tehran.” In 2018, her production “Saving the Wildlife” was honored with the best TV magazine for children and youth at the Israeli Television Academy Awards.
