Scott Paton, a regular visitor to Les Sherman Park, had a close encounter with a coyote in mid-August, noting its non-aggressive behavior. Paton informed others in the park about the presence of the coyote, with reports indicating that it had been seen in the area for several weeks.
While Paton remains unfazed by the coyote’s presence, residents in the Cathedral neighborhood have expressed discomfort. Numerous sightings have been reported on social media platforms, detailing instances of coyotes approaching people and their pets. Some individuals shared experiences of being chased by the coyote, highlighting concerns about its behavior around humans.
City Councilor David Froh also encountered a coyote during a morning run at Les Sherman Park. He emphasized the need for a response to persistent sightings, citing public safety risks. The City of Regina confirmed receiving reports of two coyotes in the area and is collaborating with provincial conservation officers to safely relocate the animals.
Froh reassured residents that the removal process would be conducted in a manner that prioritizes community safety and animal welfare. He emphasized the importance of coexisting with wildlife, acknowledging that such sightings are not uncommon in Regina. Froh encouraged residents to report any encounters with coyotes or other wild animals that may pose a threat to the city.
