Joni Mitchell and Nelly Furtado to be Honored at 55th Juno Awards

Date:

Joni Mitchell and Nelly Furtado are set to receive prestigious honors at the upcoming 55th Juno Awards in March, to be held in Hamilton. The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) and CBC made the announcement on Monday, revealing that Mitchell will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Arts Centre, while Furtado will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame during the 2026 Juno Awards at Hamilton’s newly inaugurated TD Coliseum.

Mitchell, a four-time Juno awardee, is being acknowledged for her groundbreaking career spanning decades and her global influence on music culture. She was previously inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1981.

Furtado’s induction into the Hall of Fame will commemorate her consistent chart-topping success, multiple Juno, Grammy, and Latin Grammy wins, and her significant impact on the pop music scene since the early 2000s. She joins a lineup of recent inductees such as Sum 41, Maestro Fresh Wes, Nickelback, Deborah Cox, and Jann Arden.

The upcoming Juno Awards in Hamilton mark a return after a ten-year hiatus, with local favorites Arkells headlining the event. Also set to perform are Toronto-based band the Beaches, both of which have been Juno regulars. Arkells have clinched nine Junos, including six for Group of the Year, since 2010, while the Beaches have secured victory in all five categories they were nominated for since 2018.

Allan Reid, president and CEO of CARAS, expressed enthusiasm about the event’s return to Hamilton, emphasizing the city’s deep-rooted musical culture. He highlighted the significance of having iconic figures like Joni Mitchell and Nelly Furtado headlining the ceremony, celebrating Canada’s rich musical heritage.

In a collaborative effort, the Junos and MusiCounts will facilitate a special industry exchange, connecting ten music educators with ten local musicians from Hamilton for a community-building and hands-on learning experience.

The 2026 Juno Awards are scheduled for March 29 at 8 p.m. ET in Hamilton’s TD Coliseum. Ticket sales will commence on November 28 at 10 a.m. ET, with an early-access pre-sale code (CBCMUSIC) available on November 27 at 10 a.m. Tickets can be purchased through the provided link.
