“Daring Parrot Bleu Flies 500km from Home, Reunited After Month”

Date:

A pet parrot named Bleu embarked on a daring journey in Saskatchewan, flying 500 kilometers away from its home. Bleu, an Indian Ringneck, flew from Torquay village to Prince Albert, covering a vast distance in the province.

The escapade began when Bleu made a swift exit from Rhys MacLean’s parents’ residence on May 3. Seizing an opportunity as the door was open, Bleu flew out, surprising everyone at home. MacLean recounted the incident, expressing regret over the accidental escape, as Bleu had never attempted such a maneuver before.

Having relocated from Calgary in 2024, MacLean’s family noticed a change in Bleu’s behavior in their new surroundings. The family was disheartened, feeling the odds of finding Bleu were slim given her airborne escape.

Despite feeling hopeless, MacLean turned to social media, posting on a local lost and found page for assistance. Expecting little, the response was overwhelming, with people offering help and sharing leads on Bleu’s possible whereabouts.

After a month of being on the loose, a woman in Prince Albert informed the Saskatoon Parrot Rescue about capturing a blue parrot matching Bleu’s description. The captured parrot was indeed Bleu, reunited with her cage-mate Kiwi. The successful mission concluded with Bleu returning home, showing signs of her resilient and spirited self after the ordeal.
