Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson revealed on social media that they have been practicing around 35 songs for an upcoming tour as Rush next year. The tour dates announced cover June to September 2026 in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, with two shows set for August in Toronto.
After their last concert in Los Angeles in 2015, any hopes of a reunion were dashed following the tragic passing of renowned drummer Neil Peart at the age of 67 on January 7, 2020, after battling glioblastoma.
Anika Nilles, a talented German drummer known for her solo work and touring with Jeff Beck, will be joining the band as the drummer for the upcoming tour. Despite the challenge of filling in for the irreplaceable Peart, Lee expressed excitement about the chemistry during rehearsals with Nilles.
Lifeson mentioned that each show will feature unique elements while paying tribute to Peart. The duo has been occasionally performing together since Peart’s passing, notably at tribute shows for Gordon Lightfoot and Taylor Hawkins.
Both Lee and Lifeson have been active with side projects, with Lee releasing his autobiography in 2023 and Lifeson launching two albums with Envy of None. They also hinted at the potential addition of a fourth musician, likely on keyboards, for the upcoming tour, deviating from their classic power trio setup.
The lifelong friends, who met in junior high in North York, Ontario, have a rich history, bonding over music influences before forming Rush in the early 1970s. With Peart onboard as the band’s lyricist and drummer, Rush achieved significant success, winning awards and becoming a headline act in arenas and stadiums.
Despite challenges and personal tragedies over the years, Rush has left a lasting legacy in the music industry. Their induction into various halls of fame and numerous accolades reflect their enduring impact on rock music.
