“Scooby-Doo Superfan Builds Sentimental Collection”

Date:

Alexa Lawlor, a 28-year-old from Regina, has amassed an extensive collection of Scooby-Doo memorabilia over the years, but she has lost count of the exact number of items in her collection and how much money she has invested in it. What sets her collection apart is that each item holds a sentimental value or story behind it, making it more than just a display of merchandise to her.

Lawlor’s fascination with Scooby-Doo began in her childhood when she was drawn to a toy of the character owned by her brother. This initial encounter sparked her love for collecting Scooby-Doo items, especially during the late 1990s and early 2000s when the franchise’s popularity surged due to the release of live-action movies.

Her collection has grown significantly in the past few years, now occupying a substantial portion of her living space with items ranging from vintage jigsaw puzzles and VHS tapes to character reference guides used by Hanna-Barbera staff. Among her prized possessions are a character model sheet, a storyboard from a Scooby-Doo film, and a framed comic book ad that she believes was the first promotion of the original TV show in 1969.

Lawlor’s dedication to expanding her collection has led her to various sources, from online marketplaces to flea markets and garage sales, where her keen eye for spotting potential additions has earned her the nickname “Scooby Sense.” Notably, she once convinced a man at the Calgary Stampede to sell her a giant stuffed Scooby-Doo toy he had just won at a game of chance.

In addition to her collecting passion, Lawlor hosts a podcast named “The Unmasked History of Scooby-Doo,” which she started during the pandemic to delve into the behind-the-scenes stories of the franchise. Through her podcast, she has interviewed key figures connected to Scooby-Doo, including Frank Welker, the voice actor behind “Fred” and Scooby-Doo in recent years.

Lawlor’s deep connection to the Scooby-Doo franchise stems from its ability to transport viewers on a captivating journey within each 22-minute episode. She finds the characters relatable and the mix of mystery and humor appealing, making it a timeless series that continues to resonate with fans of all ages.
