Boyertown, Pennsylvania, known for its love of baseball, is now also embracing the Toronto Blue Jays thanks to one of its own, Trey Yesavage. The 22-year-old rookie pitcher, hailing from Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and raised in Boyertown, played for his high school team under the guidance of coach Todd Moyer.
Coach Moyer shared that he witnessed a growing number of Toronto Blue Jays supporters in Pennsylvania, with people even donning Yesavage-themed attire. Despite starting the season in the minor leagues, Yesavage has captured the hearts of Blue Jays fans, particularly during Game 5 of the World Series where he set a record by striking out L.A. Dodgers players 12 times, marking the most strikeouts by a rookie in a post-season game.
Reflecting on Yesavage’s journey, Moyer, a former coach and family friend, expressed his amazement at the young pitcher’s success. Recalling Yesavage’s parents, Moyer highlighted their athletic background, noting that Trey’s accomplishments are unprecedented in terms of speed and skill.
Moyer reminisced about Yesavage’s high school days, recalling a standout performance where the young pitcher effortlessly threw a no-hitter against a formidable opponent. He praised Yesavage’s composure and focus, emphasizing his ability to remain calm under pressure and deliver results consistently.
Despite not being able to attend Yesavage’s games due to superstition, Moyer stayed connected with the pitcher’s family, sharing in their excitement and pride. As Yesavage continues to excel in the Major Leagues, Moyer remains hopeful for his success, aiming for a World Series victory.
The community of Boyertown, including both longstanding and new Jays fans, continues to rally behind Yesavage, celebrating his achievements on the field. Looking ahead, Moyer is optimistic about Yesavage’s future and eagerly anticipates the possibility of a World Series championship coming home with the talented pitcher.
