“Israeli Attacks in Gaza Escalate Post-Truce”

Date:

In the six weeks following the truce agreement between Israel and Hamas to end their two-year conflict, there have been frequent reports of Israeli attacks in Gaza. The truce, signed on October 9, marked the initial phase of President Donald Trump’s peace plan, leaving unresolved disputes for future discussions. Both sides have accused each other of violating commitments and impeding progress as outlined in the peace plan.

Data from Gaza’s Ministry of Health, compiled by Tech for Palestine, shows a daily count of deaths since October 11. Under the truce’s first stage, Israel agreed to withdraw to a designated boundary known as the “yellow line,” encompassing more than half of Gaza’s territory. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned of retaliatory measures against any attempts to breach this line.

Instances of lethal attacks have occurred near and beyond the designated boundary. Recent reports from various sources indicate that the Israeli military extended the yellow line by 300 meters in eastern Gaza City, a claim refuted by the Israeli military. Gaza’s Health Ministry reports over 300 Palestinian fatalities and close to 900 injuries since the ceasefire commenced on October 10.

Allegations from Gaza’s government media office suggest Israel has violated the ceasefire nearly 500 times, including shootings, incursions, bombings, and infrastructure destruction. Israel states that three of its soldiers have died during the ceasefire and highlights its targeting of combatants. According to Gaza Health Ministry figures, Israeli operations have resulted in the deaths of around 70,000 Palestinians and severe injuries to over 170,800 individuals.

The conflict escalated after a Hamas-led assault on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in numerous casualties and hostages taken, per Israeli reports.
