“Starbucks Shooting Victim Linked to Extortion Network”

Date:

In the wake of a fatal shooting in a crowded Starbucks in Laval, Quebec, police conducted a search of Charalambos Theologou’s residence, the victim of the incident. A police affidavit revealed the discovery of a significant amount of cash, a bulletproof vest, and financial documents indicating Theologou’s participation in illegal activities. These records, which were shown in a search warrant report reviewed by CBC, detailed individuals indebted to Theologou, including his associates and various Montreal-area restaurants.

The documents shed light on Theologou’s deep involvement in extortion and criminal activities, linking him to a 2019 homicide. Despite previous criminal convictions dating back to the early 2010s for drug trafficking, conspiracy, and firearm possession, recent search warrant evidence portrayed Theologou as the leader of an active drug trafficking network. Known as Bobby the Greek, he was the head of a group called the Chomedey Greeks and was reportedly involved in extorting protection money from restaurant owners.

During a murder investigation in 2019, Theologou attracted police attention following the death of Michail Michakis, who was gunned down in Laval’s Chomedey neighborhood. Michakis, a convicted drug trafficker, was identified as a “runner” for Theologou, responsible for drug transportation and money collection. The police linked Michakis’s murder to organized crime, leading them to conduct searches at Theologou’s properties, where they discovered cash, financial records, drugs, and a bulletproof vest.

The financial records indicated over 50 debtors owing money to Theologou, with some debts exceeding $200,000. These debtors included restaurants and businesses in Montreal, with an average debt of around $10,000. Although Theologou was described as a drug trafficking network leader and loan shark by the police, he was not charged in connection with Michakis’s murder or the possession of cocaine found at his residence.

In the tragic incident at the Starbucks, where Theologou was fatally shot alongside two associates, undercover officers monitoring him were present inside the café. The Quebec provincial police mentioned that a burnt car discovered in Montreal’s east end was potentially linked to the shooting. A parole board decision from 2013 highlighted Theologou’s involvement in drug dealing while incarcerated, emphasizing his attraction to wealth and luxury with little hope for rehabilitation.
