Prada Group Completes $1.93B Acquisition of Versace

Date:

The acquisition of Milan’s Versace by the Prada Group has been finalized in a $1.375 billion US ($1.93 billion Cdn) cash transaction, bringing together the renowned fashion house known for its seductive designs with Prada’s “ugly chic” style and Miu Miu’s youthful appeal. This move is anticipated to revitalize Versace’s performance following a period of lackluster results under Capri Holdings.

Donatella Versace celebrated the acquisition in an Instagram post coinciding with the birthday of the brand’s late founder, Gianni Versace. Lorenzo Bertelli, the heir to Prada, will lead Versace as executive chairman, emphasizing the brand’s untapped growth potential. Industry experts highlight the complementary nature of Prada’s minimalism with Versace’s maximalism, positioning the brands to cater to distinct customer segments.

Versace’s recent creative reboot under designer Dario Vitale has shown promise, with positive feedback on the vibrant 1980s-inspired collection showcased during Milan Fashion Week. Capri Holdings Chairman John D. Idol expressed confidence in Prada’s ability to steer Versace towards a new phase of growth. The Prada Group’s strategic integration of Versace into its manufacturing system signals a seamless transition for the iconic Italian brand.
