“Sisters Accused in Botched Cosmetic-Filler Operation”

Date:

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia is taking action against two sisters for their alleged involvement in a cosmetic-filler operation that reportedly caused physical deformities in a client. Jeeti Virk, a former Miss Universe Canada contestant, and her sister Rajan Virk are accused of operating multiple businesses in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland through Instagram, promoting body-contouring services to enhance lip and buttock size with dermal fillers, as per a petition filed in the British Columbia Supreme Court by the college.

The court documents reveal that the Virk sisters lack the necessary licenses to perform procedures like Botox and dermal fillers. They have remained silent in response to the court petition. The sisters are also facing a lawsuit from a former client who shared her experience within the college’s petition, claiming to have suffered deformities from the services provided by the Virks, leading her to seek medical attention at a hospital.

The lawsuit alleges negligence on the part of the Virk sisters, accusing them of falsely claiming to be trained in a procedure where dermal fillers were injected into the client’s buttocks. The sisters did not address the lawsuit, resulting in a default judgment ordering them to compensate the client with unspecified damages.

The client, as detailed in the college’s petition, engaged with Rajan and Jeeti Virk via Instagram to inquire about body-contouring services, agreeing to pay $14,500 for 2,000 milliliters of dermal filler for buttock injections. Before the procedure, Rajan advised the client to report a toothache to a physician to acquire antibiotics post-procedure. During the injections, Rajan claimed the client needed an additional 200 milliliters of filler, costing an extra $1,300. The brand of filler used, Avanescence, is confirmed by Health Canada as not approved for use.

Following the procedure, the client experienced leakage of a “blood-tinged gelatinous fluid” from the injection site, leading to illness and difficulty standing. Attempts to contact the Virks for assistance resulted in Rajan sending superglue through UberEats to seal the puncture hole. Subsequent hospital visits revealed complications, with medical staff diagnosing leakage as filler and fat necrosis from dying fat cells.

The client made multiple hospital visits for treatment, eventually receiving a dissolver from Jeeti Virk to break down the dermal filler. Despite a partial refund offer from Rajan, the client declined and cut off communication with the Virks on social media. The ordeal lasted over a month, causing ongoing bodily deformities for the client.

Botox and dermal fillers should only be administered by licensed healthcare professionals under regulatory bodies such as the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia and the B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives. Improper injection of fillers can lead to severe complications, including tissue death, blindness, infection, and scarring. Licensed providers must be equipped to manage complications and make referrals as needed.

The court documents highlight how the Virk sisters utilized Instagram accounts under various names to promote their services, including Injector Barbie, Harmany Beauty, and Harmany Body Lounge. Similar accounts in the Lower Mainland were found using identical marketing materials, with some offering training in cosmetic injection techniques. Licensed providers emphasize the importance of thorough consultations, reviewing medical histories, discussing potential risks, and obtaining consent from clients to ensure safe and effective procedures.
