Three individuals who accused actor Kevin Spacey of sexual assault have reached settlements for their civil claims before the trial at the High Court in London, as revealed in court documents. The allegations against the Academy Award-winning actor spanned from 2000 to 2013, which Spacey has consistently denied. Scheduled civil trials were halted by Judge Christina Lambert at the request of both parties, who agreed to the terms of the settlements.
The specifics of the settlements remain confidential, with no mention of costs in the court order issued on Friday and made public on Wednesday. Following the acquittal of Spacey on all nine sex-offense charges in the U.K. trial in 2023, the actor’s representatives have yet to comment on the recent developments. During the criminal trial, two anonymous civil claimants presented evidence against Spacey. In addition, Spacey successfully defended himself against a $40 million US civil lawsuit filed in New York in 2022 by actor Anthony Rapp.
Once considered one of the most celebrated actors of his time, Spacey’s career suffered setbacks due to the sexual abuse allegations. Known for his roles in movies such as “Glengarry Glen Ross” and “L.A. Confidential,” as well as the TV series “House of Cards,” Spacey received accolades, including an Academy Award for “The Usual Suspects” and “American Beauty.” Despite finding work in smaller productions in recent years, Spacey’s mainstream Hollywood career has been noticeably impacted by the allegations.
Spacey, who served as the artistic director of London’s Old Vic Theatre from 2004 to 2015, continues to navigate his career post-allegations in a different landscape than his previous Hollywood prominence.
