Netflix Canada has revealed plans to adapt another one of Carley Fortune’s popular romance novels into a 10-episode series. The series will be based on Fortune’s third book, titled “This Summer Will Be Different.” The story follows Lucy, who encounters Felix on a summer trip to Prince Edward Island, leading to a compelling chemistry-filled encounter. However, a complication arises as Felix happens to be the younger brother of Lucy’s best friend, Bridget. Lucy struggles to avoid Felix and his advances during subsequent visits to P.E.I. When Bridget faces a crisis just before her wedding, Lucy must confront her feelings for Felix. The TV adaptation will be shot in Toronto and on Prince Edward Island to stay true to the novel’s settings.
Carley Fortune, a writer and journalist based in Toronto, expressed her excitement about bringing the love story to life on screen. She drew inspiration from her own experiences on Prince Edward Island, emphasizing the island’s beauty, warmth, and the essence of friendship that influenced her book. Fortune’s previous novels include “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.” Her upcoming book, “Our Perfect Storm,” is scheduled for publication on May 5th.
“Every Summer After” is currently being adapted into a television series titled “Every Year After” on Amazon Prime Video, while “Meet Me At the Lake” has been optioned for a film by Netflix and Archewell Productions, owned by Prince Harry and Meghan. Notably, “Meet Me At the Lake” was a contender for Canada Reads, championed in 2024 by Mirian Njoh. This marks the first time a romance title has been featured on Canada Reads.
