Canada’s Bianca Andreescu and China’s Yue Yuan have advanced to the quarterfinals of the women’s doubles at the Wuhan Open through a walkover victory. The top-seeded Italians Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani withdrew, granting Andreescu and Yuan an easy progression. Paolini, later on, made it to the singles quarterfinals after her opponent Clara Tauson retired while behind in the match.
In the upcoming round, Andreescu and Yuan will face the eighth-seeded duo of Anna Danilina from Kazakhstan and Aleksandra Krunic from Serbia. Meanwhile, Leylah Fernandez from Laval, Que., and her partner Erin Routliffe from New Zealand were eliminated in the round of 16 after losing to Linda Noskova from the Czech Republic and Rebecca Sramkova from Slovakia.
U.S. Open champion Aryna Sabalenka continued her winning streak at the Wuhan Open, securing a spot in the quarterfinals after defeating Liudmila Samsonova. Sabalenka’s streak includes previous titles at Wuhan in 2018, 2019, and 2024. Second-ranked Iga Swiatek also progressed, winning against Belinda Bencic, the former Olympic champion.
In the following matches, Sabalenka will face eighth-seeded Elena Rybakina, while Swiatek will compete against Jasmine Paolini and Coco Gauff will play against Laura Siegemund. Jessica Pegula also advanced to the quarterfinals after a hard-fought victory over Ekaterina Alexandrova. Pegula has been performing well in three-set matches, winning five out of six encounters.
