Blue Jays Leaders Reflect on World Series Defeat

Date:

Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro and general manager Ross Atkins expressed their disappointment during a recent media session following the team’s close defeat in the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Despite falling short in the final game, Atkins acknowledged the team’s overall performance leading up to that moment.

The Blue Jays had a remarkable season turnaround, going from last place in the AL East the previous year to clinching the division title with 94 wins and securing the top seed in the AL. They achieved their first playoff victory in nine years by defeating the New York Yankees in the AL Division Series and went on to win the AL Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners before facing the Dodgers in a memorable 11-inning finale.

Toronto extended a qualifying offer to shortstop Bo Bichette for the upcoming season, signaling their intent to retain the two-time all-star player. With notable free agents like Max Scherzer and Chris Bassitt also on the market, the Blue Jays are positioning themselves for a strong 2026 season.

The team’s roster stability is further reinforced by the return of starter Shane Bieber and the promising performance of key players like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Alejandro Kirk. The Blue Jays are focused on building on their strong core to make a successful bid for the World Series title next year.

Additionally, bench coach Don Mattingly will not be returning, while updates on injured players like Jose Berrios and contract negotiations with managerial staff were also provided. The team is gearing up for the upcoming season, with spring training scheduled to start in February and the regular season opener against the Athletics in March.
