Date:

Canada’s women’s soccer team faced another setback as they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Japan in a friendly match in Nagasaki. Japan, ranked eighth, dominated the game with goals from Tanikawa, Tanaka, and Fujino. Canada’s struggles were evident throughout the match, with assistant coach Natalie Henderson acknowledging the team’s challenging phase.

The loss marked Canada’s fourth consecutive defeat, extending their winless streak against Japan since March 2018. The Canadian team will have a chance to redeem themselves in their upcoming match against Japan at Transcosmos Stadium Nagasaki.

Despite early promising moments, Canada failed to capitalize on opportunities, with Japan showcasing superior performance. The Canadian defense faltered, leading to Japan’s goals by Tanikawa and Tanaka. The match highlighted Canada’s need for improvement, especially in scoring goals.

The Canadian lineup featured notable changes from their previous games, with players like Sheridan, Levasseur, and Ward starting the match. Captain Jessie Fleming reached a milestone of 150 caps, while other players like Huitema and Grosso made appearances in the second half.

Unfortunately, Canada was missing key players like Buchanan, Carle, and Proulx due to injuries. The absence of forward Olivia Smith, who was sidelined with a hip injury, also impacted the team’s performance. Despite the challenges, Canada remains determined to bounce back and improve their form in future matches.
