“Canadian Figure Skater Gains French Citizenship for Olympics”

Date:

Laurence Fournier Beaudry revealed her acquisition of French citizenship on the weekend, paving the way for the 33-year-old Canadian native to potentially represent France at the upcoming Milan-Cortina Olympics alongside her partner Guillaume Cizeron.

Earlier this year, Olympic ice dance champion Cizeron announced his collaboration with Fournier Beaudry following the suspension of her former partner Nikolaj Sorensen for “sexual maltreatment.” Fournier Beaudry, who previously competed for Denmark, confirmed her new citizenship through an Instagram post, expressing immense joy and gratitude to her supporters throughout her journey.

In ice dance and pairs figure skating, changing national affiliations is a common practice due to the limited availability of partners. Cizeron, aged 30, and Gabriella Papadakis, secured the Olympic gold in Beijing 2022 and clinched five world titles before retiring in December 2024. Cizeron returned to the competitive arena with Fournier Beaudry earlier this year, triumphing at the Grand Prix de France last month.
