David Tordjman Wins Côte Saint-Luc Mayoral Race

Date:

After a recent update, Elections Quebec has declared David Tordjman the winner of the mayoral election in Côte Saint-Luc, narrowly surpassing long-time incumbent Mitchell Brownstein by a single vote. Tordjman secured 4,196 votes, equivalent to 50.01%, while Brownstein garnered 4,195 votes, representing 49.99%.

The voter turnout stood at 36.9%, with 8,391 valid votes cast and 229 rejected out of 23,359 registered voters. Tordjman previously served as a city councillor for District 6 from 2017 to 2021, where he lost his re-election bid in 2021. He is a civil engineer and currently holds the position of general manager at the Nunavik Investment Corporation.

Tordjman has a history of collaborating with First Nations communities on various infrastructure and development initiatives. He is actively involved as the president of the Friendship Circle of Montreal, providing support to children and young adults with disabilities.

On the other hand, Brownstein, a lawyer, first entered city council in 1990 and assumed the mayoral position in 2016. In a recent statement, Lawrence Bergman, who led Brownstein’s campaign, mentioned that Brownstein intends to request a recount. Bergman highlighted that Brownstein was initially leading by 50 votes on Sunday evening, but the situation reversed on Monday with Brownstein losing 38 votes while Tordjman gained 13, a difference that contradicts their data.

No additional statements will be issued until the recount request is addressed. Elections Quebec clarified that there is no automatic recount procedure for tight races; however, candidates have the option to request a recount within four days of the election results being certified.
