DOJ Unveils Epstein Documents; Trump Accusations Refuted

Date:

The U.S. Department of Justice has unveiled additional documents related to the deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, containing accounts of interviews with a woman accusing President Donald Trump, a former associate of Epstein. The Justice Department clarified that the files were initially overlooked due to being marked as duplicates and not disclosed. Congressional scrutiny over the handling of these materials has been ongoing, mandated by the Epstein Transparency Act triggered by bipartisan efforts.

Among the new records is the testimony of a woman who approached the FBI following Epstein’s 2019 arrest, alleging that a man named “Jeff” in Hilton Head, S.C., sexually assaulted her in the 1980s when she was approximately 13 years old. Initially unaware of the man’s identity, she later identified him as Jeffrey Epstein upon receiving his photo from a news article. The woman detailed multiple accusations during four FBI interviews, including claims of coercion, physical abuse, and an alleged encounter with Trump in the mid-’80s where she asserted she resisted a sexual advance.

Rejecting further questioning and terminating contact with agents, the woman’s allegations were dismissed by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt as “baseless accusations lacking credible evidence.” The Justice Department cautioned that some documents contained sensational and false claims against Trump. While the exact timeline of the Epstein-Trump relationship remains unclear, Trump disclosed in a 2002 New York magazine interview that he had known Epstein for 15 years, with no indication of impropriety.

Additionally, a former executive at a Trump-owned Atlantic City casino confirmed witnessing Trump and Epstein together on multiple occasions between 1987 and 1990. Despite flight logs showing Trump traveling on Epstein’s aircraft in the 1990s, Trump denied these flights, including passengers like Marla Maples and his children Tiffany and Eric. Recent FBI disclosures revealed a conversation where Trump allegedly acknowledged Epstein’s misconduct years before any public accusations.

Epstein, convicted of state charges in Florida in 2008 for underage prostitution solicitation, passed away in 2019 while in custody awaiting a federal trial. Investigations have not substantiated claims of an Epstein residence in Hilton Head or elsewhere in South Carolina. Democrats have accused the Trump administration of withholding pertinent records, leading to a House oversight committee subpoena of Attorney General Pam Bondi for clarifications on disclosure management.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, associated with Trump, agreed to testify after conflicting reports emerged regarding his ties with Epstein. Former President Bill Clinton and his wife were deposed, with Hillary Clinton denying meeting Epstein and Bill acknowledging occasional use of Epstein’s plane for philanthropic purposes. Both Clintons indicated a relationship with Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s associate, influenced by her past connection with a tech executive close to them, with Maxwell later sentenced to prison for aiding Epstein’s illicit activities.
