At 66 years old, Flavor Flav discovered his passion for sliding at a speed of 106 kilometers per hour. The United States bobsled and skeleton program gained a new enthusiast in the form of the iconic Flavor Flav, a member of Public Enemy, reality TV star, and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer. Recently, he was named the official hype man for USA Bobsled and Skeleton after spending time with the team at the Olympic track in Utah.
Flav expressed his excitement about the partnership, comparing it to the famous movie “Cool Runnings.” During his visit to Park City, Utah, Flav, whose legal name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr., experienced bobsledding and even attempted skeleton, a high-speed sport where athletes can reach speeds over 129 km/h.
Although advised to start from a lower point on the track for safety reasons, Flav insisted on starting higher up, showcasing his boldness and determination. Eventually, he achieved a speed of 108 km/h on his second run, impressing team officials and fellow athletes.
Known for his involvement in various sports events, Flav has been a prominent figure at the Duke’s Mayo Bowl and Super Bowl performances. Additionally, he supported Olympians like discus thrower Veronica Fraley and served as the hype man for the U.S. women’s water polo team at the Paris Olympics.
Dan Barefoot, a U.S. skeleton athlete, praised Flav’s adventurous spirit and skills, noting how he effortlessly tackled the challenging sport. The team members were energized by Flav’s presence, with many forming a strong connection with him and even attending a Maroon 5 concert together.
CEO Aron McGuire of USA Bobsled and Skeleton expressed enthusiasm for Flav’s involvement, highlighting his genuine passion for sports and the team. McGuire emphasized that Flav’s dedication and pride align with the values of the athletes, bringing excitement to the team and fans nationwide.
