“Gaming Industry Mourns Vince Zampella, Co-Creator of ‘Call of Duty'”

Date:

Vince Zampella, a prominent figure in the gaming industry known for his involvement in popular titles like “Call of Duty,” has passed away at the age of 55. Electronic Arts, the gaming company, confirmed Zampella’s death on Sunday. While the cause of his death was not officially revealed by the company, reports from various sources suggested that Zampella was involved in a fatal car accident.

Zampella co-founded Respawn Entertainment, a subsidiary of Electronic Arts, in 2010. He also previously served as the CEO of Infinity Ward, the development studio responsible for the successful “Call of Duty” series. A spokesperson from Electronic Arts praised Zampella’s significant impact on the gaming industry, describing him as a friend, leader, and visionary whose work has influenced both players and developers worldwide.

One of Zampella’s notable achievements was spearheading the creation of the acclaimed “Call of Duty” franchise, which has garnered over 500 million game sales globally since its debut in 2003. The franchise, initially focused on World War II scenarios, expanded to explore modern warfare themes and is now being adapted into a live-action movie by Paramount Pictures.

In recent times, Zampella led the development of action-adventure games like “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order” and “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.” The news of Zampella’s unexpected passing shocked Geoff Keighley, a renowned video game journalist and co-creator of the Game Awards. Keighley praised Zampella as a remarkable individual with a keen eye for talent and a passion for creating groundbreaking gaming experiences. Keighley expressed regret that the gaming community would never get to experience what he believed could have been Zampella’s greatest creation.

The gaming industry mourns the loss of Vince Zampella, a visionary whose contributions have left an indelible mark on interactive entertainment.
