Health Canada has issued a recall for a pair of cannabis products due to incorrect THC labeling on the packages. Consumers are advised to return the Chillows THC pouches in hot cinnamon and winter mint flavors to stores or properly dispose of them. The products were labeled with 10 milligrams of THC per pouch, but Health Canada found varying and higher levels of THC in the pouches.
The affected products were sold in Alberta, Ontario, Manitoba, and British Columbia from April 16 to July 30 this year. Health Canada conducted an inspection prompted by a consumer complaint, which revealed elevated THC levels in the products.
Health Canada emphasized that the inconsistent THC levels in each pouch could result in challenges in managing cannabis consumption decisions. Using the pouches could lead to over-intoxication, causing symptoms such as confusion, anxiety, elevated heart rate, impaired thinking, and physical or mental impairment. In severe cases, excessive cannabis consumption may trigger psychotic episodes in certain individuals.
The health agency advises people to safely dispose of the recalled products and keep them out of children’s reach to prevent any inadvertent exposure.
