The Israeli military is currently investigating an incident in the West Bank where a 16-year-old Palestinian was fatally shot by soldiers. This action was taken after CCTV footage suggested that the teenager was not throwing a brick, as initially claimed by the military.
Following the release of the video, an Israeli military spokesperson stated that the shooting of a Palestinian suspected of hurling a block at IDF soldiers is under review. The incident involving Rayyan Mohammad Abu Mualla occurred during an Israeli military raid in the northern West Bank town of Qabatiya.
Initially, the Israeli military reported that a terrorist had thrown a block at the soldiers, prompting them to respond with gunfire. However, the CCTV footage showed a different sequence of events, depicting the teenager being shot without any visible action of hurling a block.
The video, which starts six minutes before the shooting, captures the presence of Israeli soldiers in the area and the subsequent tragic event. Abu Mualla’s mother, Ibtihal, lamented that the Israeli military had taken away her son’s body and expressed her desire to bury him with dignity.
Since the beginning of the year, there have been 53 reported deaths of Palestinian minors by Israeli forces in the West Bank during increased military operations. The Israeli military has not yet provided a formal response to the recent incident, which has fueled tensions in the region.
