“Limp Bizkit Bassist Sam Rivers Dies at 48”

Date:

Sam Rivers, one of the original members and bass player of the nu metal group Limp Bizkit, passed away at the age of 48 as confirmed by his bandmates via a social media announcement. Lead vocalist Fred Durst, guitarist Wes Borland, drummer John Otto, and DJ Lethal paid tribute to Rivers in a heartfelt message on Instagram. They described him as more than just a bassist, highlighting his integral role in the band’s music and his irreplaceable talent and presence.

Limp Bizkit had plans to kick off their Gringo Papi tour across Latin America on November 29, but it remains uncertain if the tour will proceed without Rivers. DJ Lethal, also known as Leor Dimant, expressed gratitude for Rivers’ musical contributions, charity work, and friendships, urging fans to honor his memory by listening to his bass lines.

The band, known for blending rap and rock in the nu metal genre, was established in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1994. Their breakthrough came with the release of the album “Significant Other” in 1999, featuring the hit single “Nookie.” This album achieved significant commercial success, topping the Billboard 200 chart and earning multiple Grammy nominations.

Despite not disclosing the cause of Rivers’s death, reports indicate that he left the band in 2015 due to liver disease, which he attributed to excessive drinking. After undergoing a liver transplant in 2018, he made a comeback to the stage. Rivers, born on September 2, 1977, last performed with Limp Bizkit at music festivals in England and Canada.

Rivers’s bandmates fondly remembered him as a unique individual whose spirit will endure through their music and shared memories. They emphasized his lasting impact on their music and expressed their deep respect and appreciation for his contributions.
