The collision occurred between Tanev and Philadelphia forward Matvei Michkov, with Tanev’s head snapping back upon impact, though he had movement in all extremities.
Medical staff promptly attended to Tanev, stabilizing his head and neck before transporting him off the ice on a stretcher. This unfortunate event took place during Tanev’s return to the game after missing four matches due to a concussion. Michkov received a minor penalty for interference during the collision.
Post-game, Berube updated that Tanev was taken to a Philadelphia hospital for assessments, mentioning the possibility of Tanev traveling back to Toronto with the team. Berube expressed optimism about Tanev’s condition, mentioning ongoing tests to ensure his well-being.
