“MP’s Secret Santa Switch: Conservative Left Giftless”

Date:

Conservative Member of Parliament Jamil Jivani found himself without a Secret Santa gift following Michael Ma’s unexpected switch to the Liberal party. Ma, who was supposed to be Jivani’s Secret Santa for the Conservative caucus gift exchange, left him giftless. Despite this, Jivani maintained a positive attitude and even joked about the situation during an interview with CBC News.

“I bought a gift for my friend Mel Arnold, but when it came time to exchange gifts, I didn’t receive one. I thought maybe someone forgot, no hard feelings,” Jivani shared. After learning that Ma was his Secret Santa, Jivani humorously commented, “Maybe he decided to give it to a Liberal instead.”

Expressing his frustration over Ma’s departure to the Liberals, Jivani highlighted the misconception that cooperation between Conservatives and Liberals requires crossing party lines. He emphasized his willingness to collaborate with Liberals on common interests without the need for dramatic political maneuvers.

Michael Ma’s decision to join the Liberals marked the second MP defection from the Conservative party this fall, following Nova Scotia MP Chris d’Entremont’s move. Jivani pointed out instances of bipartisan collaboration to support his belief in working with Liberals without resorting to divisive actions like floor-crossing.

Despite feeling demoralized by the recent floor-crossings, Jivani noted that Conservatives have shown resilience and unity in response. He emphasized the shared values that unite Conservatives and affirmed his commitment to the party’s principles and goals.

In a light-hearted twist, London-Fanshawe Conservative Kurt Holman humorously remarked that he had been Ma’s Secret Santa and jokingly requested his gift back after Ma’s party switch, drawing parallels to the constituents’ desire for their votes back in Markham-Unionville.
