“Navy Veteran Stabbed to Death by Criminal in Calgary Condo”

Date:

Brett Davidson, a retired navy veteran who had recently moved to Calgary for a fresh start, was brutally attacked by Cory Miklic, a violent criminal with a history of assault convictions. The tragic incident took place in the hallway of Davidson’s Inglewood condo building on Ninth Avenue.

Miklic, who was out on bail for assault at the time, stabbed Davidson multiple times with a kitchen knife, resulting in Davidson collapsing outside the building’s gym in critical condition. Despite efforts from neighbors and the gym manager to save him, Davidson succumbed to his injuries a few hours later at the hospital.

Meanwhile, Miklic fled the scene, briefly escaping before being apprehended upon his return to the condo building. In court, Miklic pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, with prosecutor Darren Maloney recounting the heinous details of the crime in front of Davidson’s grieving family.

In a poignant victim impact statement, Davidson’s loved ones described him as a kind and loving individual who cherished his family and friends. His untimely death left a profound impact on those who knew him, including his new girlfriend Marnie, who had envisioned a future with him that was tragically cut short.

The court, presided over by Justice David Labrenz, sentenced Miklic to life in prison with a parole ineligibility period of 13 years, a decision that reflected the gravity of the senseless and incomprehensible act that led to Davidson’s tragic demise.
