“Newborn abandoned on doorstep in Longueuil mystery”

Date:

Longueuil authorities are seeking the individual responsible for abandoning a newborn baby boy on a doorstep late Sunday night around 11 p.m. The culprit rang the doorbell and quickly left the scene, prompting the residents of the Bourgeoys Street home to immediately contact emergency services.

The infant, wrapped in a blanket with his umbilical cord still attached, was discovered by the police and paramedics who provided necessary care before transferring him to a hospital, where he is reported to be in good health. Mélanie Mercille, a representative from the Service de police de l’agglomération de Longueuil (SPAL), disclosed that the baby was born prematurely at 34 weeks.

Following tips from the public, investigators are conducting searches in Marguerite Bourgeoys Park, situated close to where the newborn was found, which has been temporarily closed to the public as part of the investigation. Mercille refrained from revealing the gender of the individual who abandoned the baby and expressed astonishment at the unprecedented nature of the case in her 17-year career.

Authorities plan to canvass the neighborhood on Monday to collect any surveillance footage that could assist in identifying the newborn’s parents. Additionally, forensic analyses will be conducted to track down the person responsible for leaving the child at the doorstep.
