A man from Burlington, Ontario, who admitted to making threats to two women, has been given a five-year prison sentence as of Friday.
DeAndre Anderson, aged 25, was apprehended and charged in April 2024 with two counts of threats linked to the incel ideology, according to the RCMP.
Justice Jennifer Crawford delivered the prison term at the Ontario Court of Justice in Burlington as part of the ongoing sentencing proceedings.
Crawford specified that he must serve a total of 860 days, equivalent to around 28½ months, following her approval for a deduction of 523 days for pre-sentence detention, in line with the Crown’s requested sentence.
The charges, arising from a collaborative investigation with Halton Regional Police Service and the FBI, are alleged to constitute terrorist acts under the law, as stated in a police announcement.
Anderson pleaded guilty back in November. The identities of the victims remain shielded under a publication ban.
During the sentencing, Anderson, accompanied by his mother in court, sat in the defendant’s area, listening intently as Crawford provided an overview of the case and announced the sentence. At times, he was seen wiping his face with his hands.
Based on an agreed statement of facts between the prosecution and defense, Anderson, using the online alias MrUgly420, made public posts on an incel website between December 2022 and April 2024.
These posts included threats to shoot a former classmate in the head, whom he claimed had rejected him in the past, along with sharing her image online, as disclosed by the Crown prosecutor in a previous court appearance.

Upon his arrest, authorities discovered Anderson’s plans to harm his dentist and “a plan to stab/attack women at random.”
The Crown argued that these two charges constitute terrorist activities under the Criminal Code.
Crawford emphasized that although Anderson did not carry out his threats, by making his disturbing and hateful thoughts public through online posts, Anderson endorsed and normalized mass violence and murder against women and others.
Recognizing the severity of Anderson’s actions and his level of culpability as “high,” Crawford deemed that a five-year prison term is proportional to the gravity of the offense and Anderson’s level of responsibility.
She further mentioned that the time spent in prison would allow for his “rehabilitation” while ensuring Anderson is separated from society.
Eligibility for Parole
Since his detention on April 29, 2024, Crawford highlighted that Anderson has completed various programs totaling 13 hours over several days. These programs cover:
- Anger management.
- Thoughts to action.
- Managing stress.
- Use of leisure time</li
