Canada’s Summer McIntosh made waves at the Toyota U.S. Open Championships by setting a new U.S. Open record in the women’s 400-meter freestyle event. The three-time Olympic champion clocked in at an impressive 3 minutes and 55.37 seconds, securing a comfortable lead over her closest rival, American swimmer Anna Peplowski, who finished second with a time of 4:10.55. Emma Weyant, another American swimmer, claimed the third spot with a time of 4:11.25.
The previous U.S. Open record of 3:56.81 was held by American Katie Ledecky, established in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, last April. McIntosh, hailing from Toronto, came remarkably close to her own world-record time of 3:54.18, achieved in Victoria last June.
The competition will continue until Saturday, offering more thrilling moments for swimming enthusiasts to enjoy.
