“Surveillance Footage Released in Search for Newborn Abandonment Suspect”

Date:

Longueuil authorities have shared surveillance video in a bid to identify a person linked to the case of a newborn abandoned on a doorstep over the weekend. The Service de police de l’agglomération de Longueuil (SPAL) unveiled the footage on Tuesday, showing an individual carrying something while walking along a sidewalk. Jacqueline Pierre, SPAL’s spokesperson, mentioned that the person seemed to be holding the infant while being recorded.

This individual is believed to possess vital information that could aid in assisting the baby’s parents, according to Pierre. The incident occurred late on Sunday when an unidentified person rang the doorbell of a residence on Bourgeoys Street and promptly departed. Subsequently, a newborn, wrapped in a blanket with the umbilical cord still attached, was discovered by the occupants who promptly contacted emergency services.

Following medical attention by police and paramedics, the child, who is reported to be in good health, was transported to a hospital. Longueuil police announced on Monday that they are actively seeking the individual responsible for abandoning the infant and intend to canvass the neighborhood for potential surveillance footage to locate the parents.

Authorities urge anyone recognizing the person depicted in the video to reach out to the police. During a press briefing, Pierre extended a message to the parents, acknowledging the challenges they are likely facing and emphasizing that the police’s primary focus is on their well-being. Mélanie Mercille, another SPAL representative, revealed that the infant was delivered prematurely at 34 weeks. Additionally, information provided by the public led investigators to inspect Marguerite Bourgeoys Park near the site where the baby was discovered, resulting in the park’s closure to the public on Monday.
