Texas country music artist Charley Crockett has called off his tour in Canada, including a planned show in Saskatoon, after being denied entry into the country over a prior drug offense. The 41-year-old singer-songwriter expressed disappointment on his Instagram account, acknowledging the lingering impact of his past. He had a scheduled performance at Saskatoon’s TCU Place followed by stops in various Canadian cities before returning to the U.S., as well as a future show in Calgary.
Crockett’s attempt to enter Canada through Vancouver and Kelowna was thwarted due to a felony conviction for marijuana possession and trafficking in Virginia in 2016. Despite having toured Canada in 2024 and performed in Toronto and Saskatchewan in previous years, Crockett expressed regret for letting down his Canadian fans.
Jake Vaadeland and his band, set to open for Crockett at multiple tour locations, also expressed apologies for the missed opportunity to perform. Crockett, known for his country-folk music and numerous album releases, was anticipated to release his new record, “Age Of The Ram,” as part of his Sagebrush Trilogy.
The cancellation of the Canadian leg of Crockett’s tour has local implications, impacting the arts, culture, and economy of Saskatoon. Kirby Wirchenko, the director of theatre and programming at TCU Place, highlighted the broader community effects of the cancellation, including the disappointment faced by fans and local staff. Refunds are being issued to ticket holders affected by the tour cancellation.
