Police are currently investigating a break-in at a residence linked to Oklahoma City Thunder player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander that occurred while the NBA star was attending a game the previous evening. The burglary took place in Nichols Hills, located north of downtown Oklahoma City, with law enforcement officials refraining from disclosing the identity of the homeowner or the items stolen.
Originally hailing from Hamilton, Ont., Gilgeous-Alexander was not present at the property when the incident was reported around 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, coinciding with the Thunder’s game against the Washington Wizards. Although the suspects had fled before the police arrived, authorities assured the public that there was no immediate threat to safety.
This intrusion reflects a series of similar burglaries targeting prominent athletes’ residences nationwide, with perpetrators attracted to the perceived high-value possessions inside. Victims of such crimes include NFL figures Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Joe Burrow, as well as NBA star Luka Doncic and NHL player Evgeni Malkin.
Law enforcement agencies have cautioned sports organizations about the heightened risk on game days, advising players to bolster home security measures. The NBA circulated a directive in November 2024 recommending enhanced alarm systems with surveillance cameras, secure storage for valuables, removal of online property listings showing interior details, engagement of security services during extended absences, and consideration of guard dogs for added protection.
