Turkish authorities have apprehended 115 suspected members of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) who were allegedly plotting attacks during Christmas and New Year festivities in the country, the Istanbul chief prosecutor’s office announced on Thursday. According to the prosecutor’s office, Istanbul police received intelligence indicating that ISIS operatives were planning assaults primarily targeting non-Muslim individuals.
In a coordinated operation, law enforcement officers conducted raids on 124 locations in Istanbul, resulting in the successful capture of 115 out of the 137 sought-after suspects. The statement further mentioned that authorities confiscated several firearms and ammunition during the operations.
