“5.6 Magnitude Quake Off Vancouver Island Coast”

A seismic event of magnitude 5.6 has occurred beneath the ocean off the coast of Vancouver Island. The earthquake, recorded by Earthquakes Canada, took place at 11:41 p.m. PT on Sunday, situated 219 kilometers southwest of Port Hardy on the northern tip of Vancouver Island. It struck at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers below the ocean floor with no threat of a tsunami, according to the federal agency.

The epicenter of the earthquake is in close proximity to various significant communities on Vancouver Island, including Campbell River, located about 300 kilometers away, and Port Alberni, approximately 330 kilometers away. Reports indicate that the earthquake’s effects were felt as far as Metro Vancouver, over 450 kilometers to the southeast, with reports of shaking also coming in from northern Vancouver Island.
