“Canadian Team Triumphs Over Denmark in Billie Jean King Cup Playoffs”

In Monterrey, Mexico, the Canadian team, led by doubles star Gabriela Dabrowski from Ottawa and Victoria Mboko from Toronto, secured a victory against Denmark in the Billie Jean King Cup Group A playoffs. Dabrowski and Mboko triumphed over the Danish duo of Emma Kamper and Johanne Christine Svendsen with a score of 6-2, 6-4 in a 59-minute doubles match, clinching the best-of-three series 2-1.

During the match, the Canadian pair delivered four aces and only one double fault, accumulating 62 out of 100 available points and successfully converting three break points. Up next, Dabrowski and Mboko are set to face Mexico in a decisive match on Sunday at 5 p.m. ET, with the winner advancing to the 2026 qualifiers. In their previous encounter, Mexico defeated Denmark 2-1 in the Group A playoffs.

The upcoming Canada-Mexico showdown will be live-streamed on CBC Sports and CBC Gem. Mboko, after a challenging singles match lasting one hour and 24 minutes, managed to level the overall score at 1-1 by defeating Christine Svendsen 7-5, 6-3. Following the match, Mboko emphasized the importance of staying focused point by point and believing in herself under pressure.

Mboko’s stellar performance included 11 aces and an 86% first serve points won, while her opponent struggled with no aces, four double faults, and a 63% first serves points conversion rate. In terms of break points, Canada secured five out of 12 opportunities, while Christine Svendsen managed to convert two out of five break points and saved seven out of 12.

In the opening match, Cadence Brace from Toronto faced a tough battle against Rebecca Munk Mortensen, ultimately losing in three sets. Brace claimed the first set at 6-3 but couldn’t maintain the lead, eventually falling in the next two sets with tiebreak scores of 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) after a lengthy three-hour and 41-minute match.

Brace recorded two aces and six double faults, while Munk Mortensen showcased four aces and eight double faults. Despite both players showing a balanced performance in various statistical categories, the Denmark player held a slight advantage in break points won, break points saved, and match points saved.
