The 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards nominees were announced today, with HBO leading the pack thanks to their show “The Pitt.” This medical drama starring Noah Wyle received 25 nominations, while HBO’s “Hacks” followed closely with 24 nods. “Hacks” set a new record for the most Emmy nominations for a comedy in its final season, surpassing the previous record held by “Schitt’s Creek.”
Apple TV also had success with two of its shows. The dark comedy “Widow’s Bay” secured 19 nominations, and the post-apocalyptic series “Pluribus” received 16 nods. Unfortunately, “Heated Rivalry,” a Canadian production like “The Pitt” and “Hacks,” did not qualify for Emmy consideration due to its sole Canadian production and financing.
Despite this, Connor Storrie, a co-lead in “Heated Rivalry,” landed a nomination for his appearance on “Saturday Night Live.” The nominations were announced by previous Emmy winners Liza Colón-Zayas and Jeff Hiller at the Wolf Theatre in Los Angeles. The awards ceremony is scheduled for September 14 and will be hosted by Mariska Hargitay from “Law & Order: SVU,” the first woman to host the show in 15 years.
Additionally, this year’s Emmys will introduce a new “legacy award” to honor programs that have had a lasting impact on audiences and society. This award, the first new Emmy category in almost 20 years, aims to recognize shows that remain culturally relevant.
The full list of nominees includes various categories like Best Drama Series, Best Comedy Series, and Best Limited or Anthology Series, among others. For more information and a complete list of nominations across all categories, visit the Emmys website.
