When Courtney Sarault competes in short track speed skating, she enters a serene state of mind despite the lightning-fast pace on the ice.
For the Olympic athlete, speed skating is a realm where everything else fades away, describing it as a harmonious experience.
This mind-body connection propelled Sarault to her first Crystal Globe victory during the 2025 ISU Short Track World Tour circuit, clinching a silver in the 1,500-meter final and becoming the first Canadian woman to achieve this feat.
Reflecting on her recent Crystal Globe win at the 2025 ISU Short Track World Tour circuit, the 25-year-old short track speed skating world champion shares her thoughts before the Milano Cortina 2026 event.
On the men’s side, William Dandjinou from Sherbrooke, Quebec, secured his second consecutive world title, while Team Canada triumphed in the team event to claim the third Crystal Globe.
“It’s an incredible feeling … not many nations can accomplish that,” Sarault remarked. “It highlights Canada’s strength as a powerhouse in the sport.”
Sarault is anticipated to be officially selected for the Canadian Olympic squad later this month, marking her second appearance at the Winter Games in Milan Cortina 2026.
Second Winter Games Appearance
Sarault participated in the Beijing 2022 Winter Games, achieving an 11th place finish in both the women’s 1,000m and 1,500m events, a 4th place in the women’s 3,000m relay, and a 6th place in the mixed 2,000m relay.
With prior Olympic experience, albeit during a pandemic-affected Games, Sarault expressed readiness for better control this time, aided by her coach, Marc Gagnon.
“I’m particularly excited for a non-COVID-19 Olympics. The atmosphere and energy … some may find it distracting, but for me, it’s motivating,” she stated.
