“Regina Women Shine at World Powerlifting Championships”

Date:

Regina boasts a strong female powerlifting community as three local women achieved success at an international competition recently. Sherry McEachern, aged 58, secured second place in her class at the World Masters Powerlifting Championships held in South Africa. Reflecting on her achievement, she described the intense emotions that accompanied her successful lift. Sandi Klempner, 42, who participated in her first international competition, placed third in her class and exceeded her own expectations by deadlifting over 390 pounds.

Emmannuelle Archambault, 49, broke her previous national record by bench pressing 214.9 pounds and clinched third place in her category. Despite her extensive experience in competitions, the thrill of winning remains fresh for Archambault, underscoring the dedication to training, physiotherapy, and nutrition required for success.

The trio was part of a Canadian delegation of 14 women at the championship. Klempner noted the unique support and encouragement for middle-aged women in the Saskatchewan community to embrace powerlifting, citing the inclusive environment of local gyms catering to diverse body types and age demographics.

Archambault highlighted the physical benefits of powerlifting as she ages, emphasizing the importance of strength in reducing the risk of injuries and maintaining an active lifestyle. McEachern, who delved into powerlifting at 56, emphasized the personal growth and empowerment gained from challenging oneself and inspiring others through their achievements.

The women’s families have been supportive and proud of their accomplishments, with their children expressing admiration for their strong and resilient mothers. Klempner’s daughters and Archambault’s teenage sons have shown immense pride in their mothers’ dedication and success in the sport.

In conclusion, the success of these women not only highlights their individual achievements but also underscores the growing popularity and inclusivity of powerlifting among women in the local community. Their stories serve as inspiration for others to pursue their passions and challenge themselves regardless of age or background.
