Swiss snowboarder Berenice Wicki will not be able to compete in the upcoming Milan-Cortina Winter Games due to a re-injury of her left knee’s anterior cruciate ligament. This marks the second time this year that Wicki has suffered this injury, as confirmed by the Swiss team on Wednesday.
Wicki, aged 23, finished in seventh place in the snowboard halfpipe event at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, where she was bested by American athlete Chloe Kim. The Swiss snowboarder’s recent accident occurred during a training session last week at Secret Garden in China. Following the incident, she returned to Switzerland for medical evaluation, which revealed another ACL tear in her left knee.
The Swiss ski federation announced that Wicki will undergo surgery next week, leading to the premature end of her competitive season. This injury is a setback for Wicki, who had previously injured the same knee in February, causing her to miss the freestyle skiing world championships held the following month in Switzerland.
