Bruce Springsteen has released a new song titled “Streets of Minneapolis,” dedicated to the residents of Minneapolis and criticizing President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement actions in the city. The song’s lyrics describe a city in turmoil under an oppressive force, referring to it as “King Trump’s private army.” Springsteen mentioned that he wrote and recorded the song in response to a recent fatal shooting by federal immigration agents, dedicating it to the people of Minneapolis and honoring the memory of two victims, Alex Pretti and Renee Good.
A White House spokesperson, Abigail Jackson, responded to the song, emphasizing the administration’s focus on collaborating with state and local authorities to remove criminal illegal immigrants rather than engaging with songs containing what she described as irrelevant opinions and misinformation. The song starts with an acoustic guitar and vocals, gradually building up to a full band arrangement with a harmonica solo and concluding with chants of “ICE Out!”
In the song, Springsteen sings about standing up for the city and its diverse community, echoing themes from his previous work like “Streets of Philadelphia.” Springsteen’s critical stance towards President Trump is well-known, with the two figures publicly clashing in the past. Last year, during a tour in England, Springsteen openly criticized the administration, prompting a response from Trump, who referred to the rock legend as an “overrated” artist.
