“School Bus Driver Killed in Ontario Crash”

Date:

A tragic incident occurred on Sunday as a school bus driver lost their life in a crash on Highway 401 in London, Ontario. Four children sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital. The accident occurred around 9:40 a.m., causing the closure of the westbound lanes of the highway for several hours. The bus, carrying 42 passengers, veered off the highway, tipping over before coming to a stop.

The deceased driver, a 52-year-old man from the Waterloo region, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are yet to determine the cause of the driver’s death. The crash involved a single vehicle, prompting the setup of a command center at the East Lions Community Centre in London for affected families.

The bus was transporting Grade 9 students from Kitchener Waterloo Collegiate and Vocational School to Point Pelee National Park for a school trip. Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with students helping each other evacuate the bus after it veered off the road and rolled over. While the exact cause of the crash remains uncertain, some reports suggest the driver may have experienced a medical emergency.

In response to the incident, Waterloo Region District School Board is providing support to the affected students and their families. The board has arranged for the safe return of students not involved in the crash, emphasizing the importance of school bus safety in light of the tragic event. The investigation into the crash is ongoing as authorities work to uncover the circumstances leading to the fatal accident.
